Company Profile:
Airtechnics
was co-founded in 1957 by Claude Mann and Jim Lawless, and remains one of the largest privately held electronics
distributors worldwide.
Airtechnics
began as a manufacturer's representative serving the
Wichita
general aviation industry. The
company's initial focus was to create innovative solutions for the
general aviation marketplace that would enhance companies' supply
chains. Airtechnics pioneered the stocking representative / forward
stock concept in the 1960s to provide the first just-in-time delivery
system in the general aviation industry.
The program also provided value added assemblies directly to the
production line. This
innovation enabled aircraft manufacturers to focus on the core
competency of designing and building planes and not managing in-house
inventories.
In
1987, Ron Mann was appointed President and CEO, made the strategic
decision to enhance the Company’s offerings, and added
electromechanical component distribution capabilities.
The strategy was to add product lines that had applications in
the general aviation, commercial aerospace and defense markets, thus
stabilizing Airtechnics from the business cycles of a single end-market.
This strategic decision effectively transformed the company from
a sales organization to a full-service distributor.
Airtechnics
broadened its offering in 1999 to include value-added military circular
connectors. This was driven
by a desire to increase the company's value proposition to their
customer base and to diversify revenues into new product segments with
greater growth potential. The
success of the value-added connectors brought about the need for
additional employees, expertise, infrastructure and facility space.
As a result, Airtechnics relocated in November 2001 to the
current 65,000 square foot facility that now houses corporate offices,
operations, warehouse and value-added assembly departments.
Since
2001, the Company has continued its growth trajectory by adding
additional product lines, branch offices and aggressively pursuing new
customers. In 2007,
Airtechnics celebrated its 50 year anniversary and appointed Christina
Kukuruda to the position of President, who assumed day-to-day
responsibility for the company's operations.
